अध्याय 10: विभूतियोग

10.1

श्री भगवानुवाच
भूय एव महाबाहो श्रृणु मे परमं वचः।
यत्तेऽहं प्रीयमाणाय वक्ष्यामि हितकाम्यया।।10.1।।

śhrī bhagavān uvācha
bhūya eva mahā-bāho śhṛiṇu me paramaṁ vachaḥ
yatte ’haṁ prīyamāṇāya vakṣhyāmi hita-kāmyayā

अर्थ: श्रीभगवान बोले: हे महाबाहु, मेरी परम बात फिर से सुनो। तुम इसे सुनकर प्रसन्न होते हो, इसलिए तुम्हारे भले के लिए मैं इसे कहता हूँ।

English: The Blessed Lord said: Hear again, O mighty-armed one, My supreme word, which I shall speak to you, who delight in it, wishing for your welfare.

10.2

न मे विदुः सुरगणाः प्रभवं न महर्षयः।
अहमादिर्हि देवानां महर्षीणां च सर्वशः।।10.2।।

na me viduḥ sura-gaṇāḥ prabhavaṁ na maharṣhayaḥ
aham ādir hi devānāṁ maharṣhīṇāṁ cha sarvaśhaḥ

अर्थ: मेरी उत्पत्ति को न देवताओं के समूह जानते हैं, न महर्षि; क्योंकि मैं हर तरह से देवताओं और महर्षियों का भी आदि कारण हूँ।

English: Neither the hosts of gods nor the great sages know My origin; for I am the source of the gods and the great sages in every way.

10.3

यो मामजमनादिं च वेत्ति लोकमहेश्वरम्।
असम्मूढः स मर्त्येषु सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते।।10.3।।

yo māmajam anādiṁ cha vetti loka-maheśhvaram
asammūḍhaḥ sa martyeṣhu sarva-pāpaiḥ pramuchyate

अर्थ: जो मुझे अजन्मा, अनादि और सब लोकों का महान ईश्वर जानता है, वह मनुष्यों में मोह रहित है और सब पापों से छूट जाता है।

English: One who knows Me as unborn and without beginning, the great Lord of the worlds, is undeluded among mortals and is freed from all sins.

10.4

बुद्धिर्ज्ञानमसंमोहः क्षमा सत्यं दमः शमः।
सुखं दुःखं भवोऽभावो भयं चाभयमेव च।।10.4।।

buddhir jñānam asammohaḥ kṣhamā satyaṁ damaḥ śhamaḥ
sukhaṁ duḥkhaṁ bhavo ’bhāvo bhayaṁ chābhayameva cha

अर्थ: बुद्धि, ज्ञान, मोह से मुक्ति, क्षमा, सच्चाई, इंद्रियों का संयम, मन की शांति, सुख-दुख, जन्म-मृत्यु, डर और निडरता,

English: Intelligence, knowledge, freedom from delusion, forgiveness, truthfulness, self-restraint, calm, pleasure and pain, birth and death, fear and fearlessness,

10.5

अहिंसा समता तुष्टिस्तपो दानं यशोऽयशः।
भवन्ति भावा भूतानां मत्त एव पृथग्विधाः।।10.5।।

ahiṁsā samatā tuṣṭis tapo dānaṁ yaśo 'yaśaḥ bhavanti bhāvā bhūtānāṁ matta eva pṛthag-vidhāḥ

अर्थ: अहिंसा, समता, संतोष, तप, दान, यश और अपयश; प्राणियों के ये अलग-अलग भाव मुझसे ही पैदा होते हैं।

English: non-violence, equanimity, contentment, austerity, generosity, fame and infamy: these different states of beings arise from Me alone.

10.6

महर्षयः सप्त पूर्वे चत्वारो मनवस्तथा।
मद्भावा मानसा जाता येषां लोक इमाः प्रजाः।।10.6।।

maharṣhayaḥ sapta pūrve chatvāro manavas tathā
mad-bhāvā mānasā jātā yeṣhāṁ loka imāḥ prajāḥ

अर्थ: सात महर्षि और उनसे पहले के चार सनकादि तथा चौदह मनु, मेरे मन से पैदा हुए और मेरे ही भाव वाले हैं; संसार की सारी प्रजा उन्हीं से है।

English: The seven great sages and the four ancient Manus before them were born of My mind and share My nature; from them come all the creatures of the world.

10.7

एतां विभूतिं योगं च मम यो वेत्ति तत्त्वतः।
सोऽविकम्पेन योगेन युज्यते नात्र संशयः।।10.7।।

etāṁ vibhūtiṁ yogaṁ cha mama yo vetti tattvataḥ
so ’vikampena yogena yujyate nātra sanśhayaḥ

अर्थ: जो मेरी इस विभूति (महिमा) और योग (शक्ति) को सच में जानता है, वह अडिग योग से मुझसे जुड़ जाता है। इसमें कोई शक नहीं।

English: One who truly knows this glory and power of Mine is united with Me in unshaken yoga. Of this there is no doubt.

10.8

अहं सर्वस्य प्रभवो मत्तः सर्वं प्रवर्तते।
इति मत्वा भजन्ते मां बुधा भावसमन्विताः।।10.8।।

ahaṁ sarvasya prabhavo mattaḥ sarvaṁ pravartate
iti matvā bhajante māṁ budhā bhāva-samanvitāḥ

अर्थ: मैं सबका स्रोत हूँ, सब कुछ मुझसे ही चलता है। यह समझकर ज्ञानी लोग प्रेम से भरकर मेरी भक्ति करते हैं।

English: I am the source of all; everything comes forth from Me. Understanding this, the wise worship Me, filled with love.

10.9

मच्चित्ता मद्गतप्राणा बोधयन्तः परस्परम्।
कथयन्तश्च मां नित्यं तुष्यन्ति च रमन्ति च।।10.9।।

mach-chittā mad-gata-prāṇā bodhayantaḥ parasparam
kathayantaśh cha māṁ nityaṁ tuṣhyanti cha ramanti cha

अर्थ: उनका मन मुझमें लगा रहता है, उनके प्राण मुझे अर्पित हैं। वे एक-दूसरे को मेरे बारे में समझाते हुए और हमेशा मेरी चर्चा करते हुए संतुष्ट और आनंदित रहते हैं।

English: With their minds on Me and their lives given to Me, enlightening one another and always speaking of Me, they are content and delighted.

10.10

तेषां सततयुक्तानां भजतां प्रीतिपूर्वकम्।
ददामि बुद्धियोगं तं येन मामुपयान्ति ते।।10.10।।

teṣhāṁ satata-yuktānāṁ bhajatāṁ prīti-pūrvakam
dadāmi buddhi-yogaṁ taṁ yena mām upayānti te

अर्थ: जो सदा मुझसे जुड़े रहते हैं और प्रेम से मेरी भक्ति करते हैं, उन्हें मैं वह बुद्धियोग देता हूँ जिससे वे मुझे पा लेते हैं।

English: To those who are ever steadfast and worship Me with love, I give the yoga of understanding by which they come to Me.

10.11

तेषामेवानुकम्पार्थमहमज्ञानजं तमः।
नाशयाम्यात्मभावस्थो ज्ञानदीपेन भास्वता।।10.11।।

teṣhām evānukampārtham aham ajñāna-jaṁ tamaḥ
nāśhayāmyātma-bhāva-stho jñāna-dīpena bhāsvatā

अर्थ: उन पर कृपा करने के लिए मैं उनके हृदय में रहकर, ज्ञान के चमकते दीपक से अज्ञान से पैदा हुए अँधेरे को मिटा देता हूँ।

English: Out of compassion for them, dwelling within their hearts, I destroy the darkness born of ignorance with the shining lamp of knowledge.

10.12

अर्जुन उवाच
परं ब्रह्म परं धाम पवित्रं परमं भवान्।
पुरुषं शाश्वतं दिव्यमादिदेवमजं विभुम्।।10.12।।

arjuna uvācha
paraṁ brahma paraṁ dhāma pavitraṁ paramaṁ bhavān
puruṣhaṁ śhāśhvataṁ divyam ādi-devam ajaṁ vibhum

अर्थ: अर्जुन बोले: आप परम ब्रह्म हैं, परम धाम हैं, सबसे पवित्र करने वाले हैं। आप सनातन दिव्य पुरुष, देवताओं के भी आदि देव, अजन्मे और सर्वव्यापी हैं।

English: Arjuna said: You are the supreme Brahman, the supreme abode, the supreme purifier, the eternal divine Person, the first of the gods, unborn and all-pervading.

10.13

आहुस्त्वामृषयः सर्वे देवर्षिर्नारदस्तथा।
असितो देवलो व्यासः स्वयं चैव ब्रवीषि मे।।10.13।।

āhus tvām ṛiṣhayaḥ sarve devarṣhir nāradas tathā
asito devalo vyāsaḥ svayaṁ chaiva bravīṣhi me

अर्थ: सारे ऋषि, देवर्षि नारद, असित, देवल और व्यास आपको ऐसा ही बताते हैं, और आप खुद भी मुझसे यही कहते हैं।

English: So all the sages declare you to be, and the divine sage Narada, and Asita, Devala and Vyasa; and you yourself tell me so.

10.14

सर्वमेतदृतं मन्ये यन्मां वदसि केशव।
न हि ते भगवन् व्यक्तिं विदुर्देवा न दानवाः।।10.14।।

sarvam etad ṛitaṁ manye yan māṁ vadasi keśhava
na hi te bhagavan vyaktiṁ vidur devā na dānavāḥ

अर्थ: हे केशव, आप मुझसे जो कुछ कहते हैं, उस सबको मैं सच मानता हूँ। हे भगवन, आपके प्रकट होने के रहस्य को न देवता जानते हैं, न दानव।

English: I believe all that you tell me to be true, O Keshava. Neither the gods nor the demons, O Lord, know your manifestation.

10.15

स्वयमेवात्मनाऽत्मानं वेत्थ त्वं पुरुषोत्तम।
भूतभावन भूतेश देवदेव जगत्पते।।10.15।।

swayam evātmanātmānaṁ vettha tvaṁ puruṣhottama
bhūta-bhāvana bhūteśha deva-deva jagat-pate

अर्थ: हे पुरुषोत्तम, हे सब प्राणियों को रचने वाले, हे प्राणियों के ईश्वर, हे देवों के देव, हे जगत के स्वामी, आप खुद ही अपने आप को जानते हैं।

English: You alone know yourself by yourself, O supreme Person, source of beings, Lord of beings, God of gods, ruler of the world!

10.16

वक्तुमर्हस्यशेषेण दिव्या ह्यात्मविभूतयः।
याभिर्विभूतिभिर्लोकानिमांस्त्वं व्याप्य तिष्ठसि।।10.16।।

vaktum arhasyaśheṣheṇa divyā hyātma-vibhūtayaḥ
yābhir vibhūtibhir lokān imāṁs tvaṁ vyāpya tiṣhṭhasi

अर्थ: जिन विभूतियों से आप इन सब लोकों में व्याप्त होकर स्थित हैं, अपनी उन दिव्य विभूतियों का पूरा वर्णन आप ही कर सकते हैं।

English: Please tell me fully of your divine glories, by which you pervade these worlds and remain in them.

10.17

कथं विद्यामहं योगिंस्त्वां सदा परिचिन्तयन्।
केषु केषु च भावेषु चिन्त्योऽसि भगवन्मया।।10.17।।

kathaṁ vidyām ahaṁ yogins tvāṁ sadā parichintayan
keṣhu keṣhu cha bhāveṣhu chintyo ’si bhagavan mayā

अर्थ: हे योगेश्वर, मैं लगातार चिंतन करते हुए आपको कैसे जानूँ? और हे भगवन, किन-किन भावों में मैं आपका चिंतन करूँ?

English: How may I know you, O Yogi, by constant meditation? In what various aspects are you to be thought of by me, O Lord?

10.18

विस्तरेणात्मनो योगं विभूतिं च जनार्दन।
भूयः कथय तृप्तिर्हि श्रृण्वतो नास्ति मेऽमृतम्।।10.18।।

vistareṇātmano yogaṁ vibhūtiṁ cha janārdana
bhūyaḥ kathaya tṛiptir hi śhṛiṇvato nāsti me ’mṛitam

अर्थ: हे जनार्दन, अपने योग और विभूति को फिर से विस्तार से बताइए, क्योंकि आपकी अमृत जैसी बातें सुनते हुए मेरा मन भरता ही नहीं।

English: Tell me again in detail of your yoga and your glory, O Janardana; for I am never satisfied with hearing your nectar-like words.

10.19

श्री भगवानुवाच
हन्त ते कथयिष्यामि दिव्या ह्यात्मविभूतयः।
प्राधान्यतः कुरुश्रेष्ठ नास्त्यन्तो विस्तरस्य मे।।10.19।।

śhrī bhagavān uvācha
hanta te kathayiṣhyāmi divyā hyātma-vibhūtayaḥ
prādhānyataḥ kuru-śhreṣhṭha nāstyanto vistarasya me

अर्थ: श्रीभगवान बोले: ठीक है, हे कुरुश्रेष्ठ, मैं तुम्हें अपनी दिव्य विभूतियाँ बताता हूँ, पर केवल मुख्य-मुख्य; क्योंकि मेरे विस्तार का कोई अंत नहीं।

English: The Blessed Lord said: Very well, I shall tell you of My divine glories, but only the chief among them, O best of the Kurus; for there is no end to My extent.

10.20

अहमात्मा गुडाकेश सर्वभूताशयस्थितः।
अहमादिश्च मध्यं च भूतानामन्त एव च।।10.20।।

aham ātmā guḍākeśha sarva-bhūtāśhaya-sthitaḥ
aham ādiśh cha madhyaṁ cha bhūtānām anta eva cha

अर्थ: हे गुडाकेश, सब प्राणियों के हृदय में रहने वाला आत्मा मैं हूँ। सब प्राणियों का आदि, बीच और अंत भी मैं ही हूँ।

English: I am the Self, O Gudakesha, dwelling in the heart of all beings. I am the beginning, the middle and also the end of all beings.

10.21

आदित्यानामहं विष्णुर्ज्योतिषां रविरंशुमान्।
मरीचिर्मरुतामस्मि नक्षत्राणामहं शशी।।10.21।।

ādityānām ahaṁ viṣhṇur jyotiṣhāṁ ravir anśhumān
marīchir marutām asmi nakṣhatrāṇām ahaṁ śhaśhī

अर्थ: अदिति के बारह पुत्रों में विष्णु मैं हूँ, ज्योतियों में चमकता सूरज मैं हूँ, मरुतों में मरीचि मैं हूँ, और नक्षत्रों में चंद्रमा मैं हूँ।

English: Among the Adityas I am Vishnu; among lights, the radiant sun; among the Maruts I am Marichi; among the stars, I am the moon.

10.22

वेदानां सामवेदोऽस्मि देवानामस्मि वासवः।
इन्द्रियाणां मनश्चास्मि भूतानामस्मि चेतना।।10.22।।

vedānāṁ sāma-vedo ’smi devānām asmi vāsavaḥ
indriyāṇāṁ manaśh chāsmi bhūtānām asmi chetanā

अर्थ: वेदों में सामवेद मैं हूँ, देवताओं में इंद्र मैं हूँ, इंद्रियों में मन मैं हूँ, और प्राणियों में चेतना मैं हूँ।

English: Among the Vedas I am the Sama Veda; among the gods I am Indra; among the senses I am the mind; and in living beings I am consciousness.

10.23

रुद्राणां शङ्करश्चास्मि वित्तेशो यक्षरक्षसाम्।
वसूनां पावकश्चास्मि मेरुः शिखरिणामहम्।।10.23।।

rudrāṇāṁ śhaṅkaraśh chāsmi vitteśho yakṣha-rakṣhasām
vasūnāṁ pāvakaśh chāsmi meruḥ śhikhariṇām aham

अर्थ: रुद्रों में शंकर मैं हूँ, यक्षों और राक्षसों में धन के स्वामी कुबेर मैं हूँ, वसुओं में अग्नि मैं हूँ, और पर्वतों में मेरु मैं हूँ।

English: Among the Rudras I am Shankara; among the Yakshas and Rakshasas, Kubera, lord of wealth; among the Vasus I am Agni (fire); and among mountains, Meru.

10.24

पुरोधसां च मुख्यं मां विद्धि पार्थ बृहस्पतिम्।
सेनानीनामहं स्कन्दः सरसामस्मि सागरः।।10.24।।

purodhasāṁ cha mukhyaṁ māṁ viddhi pārtha bṛihaspatim
senānīnām ahaṁ skandaḥ sarasām asmi sāgaraḥ

अर्थ: हे पार्थ, पुरोहितों में मुख्य बृहस्पति मुझे जानो। सेनापतियों में स्कंद (कार्तिकेय) मैं हूँ, और जलाशयों में समुद्र मैं हूँ।

English: Among priests, O Partha, know Me to be the chief, Brihaspati; among generals I am Skanda; among bodies of water I am the ocean.

10.25

महर्षीणां भृगुरहं गिरामस्म्येकमक्षरम्।
यज्ञानां जपयज्ञोऽस्मि स्थावराणां हिमालयः।।10.25।।

maharṣhīṇāṁ bhṛigur ahaṁ girām asmyekam akṣharam
yajñānāṁ japa-yajño ’smi sthāvarāṇāṁ himālayaḥ

अर्थ: महर्षियों में भृगु मैं हूँ, शब्दों में एक अक्षर ॐ मैं हूँ, यज्ञों में जप-यज्ञ मैं हूँ, और न हिलने वालों में हिमालय मैं हूँ।

English: Among the great sages I am Bhrigu; among words I am the one syllable Om; among sacrifices I am the sacrifice of silent repetition (japa); among unmoving things, the Himalaya.

10.26

अश्वत्थः सर्ववृक्षाणां देवर्षीणां च नारदः।
गन्धर्वाणां चित्ररथः सिद्धानां कपिलो मुनिः।।10.26।।

aśhvatthaḥ sarva-vṛikṣhāṇāṁ devarṣhīṇāṁ cha nāradaḥ
gandharvāṇāṁ chitrarathaḥ siddhānāṁ kapilo muniḥ

अर्थ: सब पेड़ों में पीपल मैं हूँ, देवर्षियों में नारद, गंधर्वों में चित्ररथ, और सिद्धों में कपिल मुनि मैं हूँ।

English: Among all trees I am the sacred fig (ashvattha); among divine sages, Narada; among the Gandharvas, Chitraratha; among the perfected ones, the sage Kapila.

10.27

उच्चैःश्रवसमश्वानां विद्धि माममृतोद्भवम्।
ऐरावतं गजेन्द्राणां नराणां च नराधिपम्।।10.27।।

uchchaiḥśhravasam aśhvānāṁ viddhi mām amṛitodbhavam
airāvataṁ gajendrāṇāṁ narāṇāṁ cha narādhipam

अर्थ: घोड़ों में अमृत के साथ (समुद्र-मंथन से) निकला उच्चैःश्रवा मुझे जानो, बड़े हाथियों में ऐरावत, और मनुष्यों में राजा मुझे जानो।

English: Among horses, know Me as Uchchaihshravas, born of the nectar; among lordly elephants, Airavata; and among men, the king.

10.28

आयुधानामहं वज्रं धेनूनामस्मि कामधुक्।
प्रजनश्चास्मि कन्दर्पः सर्पाणामस्मि वासुकिः।।10.28।।

āyudhānām ahaṁ vajraṁ dhenūnām asmi kāmadhuk
prajanaśh chāsmi kandarpaḥ sarpāṇām asmi vāsukiḥ

अर्थ: हथियारों में वज्र मैं हूँ, गायों में कामधेनु मैं हूँ, संतान पैदा करने वाला कामदेव मैं हूँ, और सर्पों में वासुकि मैं हूँ।

English: Among weapons I am the thunderbolt; among cows I am Kamadhenu, the wish-fulfilling cow; I am Kandarpa, the god of love, who brings forth offspring; among serpents I am Vasuki.

10.29

अनन्तश्चास्मि नागानां वरुणो यादसामहम्।
पितृ़णामर्यमा चास्मि यमः संयमतामहम्।।10.29।।

anantaśh chāsmi nāgānāṁ varuṇo yādasām aham
pitṝīṇām aryamā chāsmi yamaḥ sanyamatām aham

अर्थ: नागों में शेषनाग (अनंत) मैं हूँ, जल के देवताओं में वरुण मैं हूँ, पितरों में अर्यमा मैं हूँ, और नियम चलाने वालों में यमराज मैं हूँ।

English: Among the Nagas I am Ananta; among water beings I am Varuna; among the ancestors I am Aryaman; and among those who keep order, I am Yama.

10.30

प्रह्लादश्चास्मि दैत्यानां कालः कलयतामहम्।
मृगाणां च मृगेन्द्रोऽहं वैनतेयश्च पक्षिणाम्।।10.30।।

prahlādaśh chāsmi daityānāṁ kālaḥ kalayatām aham
mṛigāṇāṁ cha mṛigendro ’haṁ vainateyaśh cha pakṣhiṇām

अर्थ: दैत्यों में प्रह्लाद मैं हूँ, गिनती करने वालों में काल (समय) मैं हूँ, पशुओं में शेर मैं हूँ, और पक्षियों में विनता का बेटा गरुड़ मैं हूँ।

English: Among the Daityas I am Prahlada; among measurers I am Time; among beasts I am the lion; and among birds, Garuda, son of Vinata.

10.31

पवनः पवतामस्मि रामः शस्त्रभृतामहम्।
झषाणां मकरश्चास्मि स्रोतसामस्मि जाह्नवी।।10.31।।

pavanaḥ pavatām asmi rāmaḥ śhastra-bhṛitām aham
jhaṣhāṇāṁ makaraśh chāsmi srotasām asmi jāhnavī

अर्थ: पवित्र करने वालों में हवा मैं हूँ, हथियार चलाने वालों में राम मैं हूँ, मछलियों में मगर मैं हूँ, और नदियों में गंगा मैं हूँ।

English: Among purifiers I am the wind; among wielders of weapons I am Rama; among fishes I am the makara; and among rivers I am the Ganga.

10.32

सर्गाणामादिरन्तश्च मध्यं चैवाहमर्जुन।
अध्यात्मविद्या विद्यानां वादः प्रवदतामहम्।।10.32।।

sargāṇām ādir antaśh cha madhyaṁ chaivāham arjuna
adhyātma-vidyā vidyānāṁ vādaḥ pravadatām aham

अर्थ: हे अर्जुन, सारी सृष्टि का आदि, अंत और बीच भी मैं ही हूँ। विद्याओं में अध्यात्म-विद्या मैं हूँ, और बहस करने वालों का तर्क मैं हूँ।

English: Of all creations I am the beginning, the middle and also the end, O Arjuna. Among sciences I am the science of the Self, and in those who debate, I am the reasoning.

10.33

अक्षराणामकारोऽस्मि द्वन्द्वः सामासिकस्य च।
अहमेवाक्षयः कालो धाताऽहं विश्वतोमुखः।।10.33।।

अहमेवाक्षय: कालो धाताहं विश्वतोमुख: || 33||
akṣharāṇām a-kāro ’smi dvandvaḥ sāmāsikasya cha
aham evākṣhayaḥ kālo dhātāhaṁ viśhvato-mukhaḥ

अर्थ: अक्षरों में "अ" मैं हूँ, समासों में द्वंद्व समास मैं हूँ। कभी न खत्म होने वाला समय भी मैं हूँ, और हर ओर मुख वाला, सबको धारण करने वाला भी मैं हूँ।

English: Among letters I am the letter A; among compound words, the dvandva (the pairing compound). I am also imperishable Time, and I am the sustainer whose face is everywhere.

10.34

मृत्युः सर्वहरश्चाहमुद्भवश्च भविष्यताम्।
कीर्तिः श्रीर्वाक्च नारीणां स्मृतिर्मेधा धृतिः क्षमा।।10.34।।

mṛityuḥ sarva-haraśh chāham udbhavaśh cha bhaviṣhyatām
kīrtiḥ śhrīr vāk cha nārīṇāṁ smṛitir medhā dhṛitiḥ kṣhamā

अर्थ: सब कुछ हर लेने वाली मृत्यु मैं हूँ, और आगे होने वालों की उत्पत्ति भी मैं हूँ। स्त्री-गुणों में कीर्ति, श्री, वाणी, स्मृति, मेधा, धृति (धीरज) और क्षमा मैं हूँ।

English: I am all-devouring death, and the source of all that is yet to be. Among feminine qualities I am fame, prosperity, speech, memory, intelligence, steadfastness and forgiveness.

10.35

बृहत्साम तथा साम्नां गायत्री छन्दसामहम्।
मासानां मार्गशीर्षोऽहमृतूनां कुसुमाकरः।।10.35।।

bṛihat-sāma tathā sāmnāṁ gāyatrī chhandasām aham
māsānāṁ mārga-śhīrṣho ’ham ṛitūnāṁ kusumākaraḥ

अर्थ: सामवेद के गीतों में बृहत्साम मैं हूँ, छंदों में गायत्री मैं हूँ, महीनों में मार्गशीर्ष (अगहन) मैं हूँ, और ऋतुओं में फूलों वाला वसंत मैं हूँ।

English: Among hymns I am the Brihat Saman; among metres I am the Gayatri; among months I am Margashirsha; and among seasons, the flowery spring.

10.36

द्यूतं छलयतामस्मि तेजस्तेजस्विनामहम्।
जयोऽस्मि व्यवसायोऽस्मि सत्त्वं सत्त्ववतामहम्।।10.36।।

dyūtaṁ chhalayatām asmi tejas tejasvinām aham
jayo ’smi vyavasāyo ’smi sattvaṁ sattvavatām aham

अर्थ: छल करने वालों में जुआ मैं हूँ, तेजस्वियों का तेज मैं हूँ। जीत मैं हूँ, पक्का इरादा मैं हूँ, और सज्जनों की सज्जनता मैं हूँ।

English: I am the gambling of the cheat and the splendour of the splendid. I am victory, I am determination, and I am the goodness of the good.

10.37

वृष्णीनां वासुदेवोऽस्मि पाण्डवानां धनंजयः।
मुनीनामप्यहं व्यासः कवीनामुशना कविः।।10.37।।

vṛiṣhṇīnāṁ vāsudevo ’smi pāṇḍavānāṁ dhanañjayaḥ
munīnām apyahaṁ vyāsaḥ kavīnām uśhanā kaviḥ

अर्थ: वृष्णि वंश में वासुदेव मैं हूँ, पांडवों में धनंजय (अर्जुन) मैं हूँ, मुनियों में व्यास मैं हूँ, और कवियों में शुक्राचार्य (उशना) मैं हूँ।

English: Among the Vrishnis I am Vasudeva; among the Pandavas, Dhananjaya; among the sages I am Vyasa; and among poets, the poet Ushana.

10.38

दण्डो दमयतामस्मि नीतिरस्मि जिगीषताम्।
मौनं चैवास्मि गुह्यानां ज्ञानं ज्ञानवतामहम्।।10.38।।

daṇḍo damayatām asmi nītir asmi jigīṣhatām
maunaṁ chaivāsmi guhyānāṁ jñānaṁ jñānavatām aham

अर्थ: दंड देने वालों का दंड मैं हूँ, जीत चाहने वालों की नीति मैं हूँ, रहस्यों में मौन मैं हूँ, और ज्ञानियों का ज्ञान मैं हूँ।

English: Of those who punish I am the rod; of those who seek victory I am statesmanship; of secrets I am silence; and of the knowers I am knowledge.

10.39

यच्चापि सर्वभूतानां बीजं तदहमर्जुन।
न तदस्ति विना यत्स्यान्मया भूतं चराचरम्।।10.39।।

yach chāpi sarva-bhūtānāṁ bījaṁ tad aham arjuna
na tad asti vinā yat syān mayā bhūtaṁ charācharam

अर्थ: हे अर्जुन, सब प्राणियों का जो बीज है, वह मैं हूँ। चलने वाला या न चलने वाला, ऐसा कोई प्राणी नहीं जो मेरे बिना हो।

English: And whatever is the seed of all beings, that I am, O Arjuna. There is nothing, moving or unmoving, that can exist without Me.

10.40

नान्तोऽस्ति मम दिव्यानां विभूतीनां परंतप।
एष तूद्देशतः प्रोक्तो विभूतेर्विस्तरो मया।।10.40।।

nānto ’sti mama divyānāṁ vibhūtīnāṁ parantapa
eṣha tūddeśhataḥ prokto vibhūter vistaro mayā

अर्थ: हे परंतप, मेरी दिव्य विभूतियों का कोई अंत नहीं है। मैंने तुम्हें अपनी विभूतियों के विस्तार का यह बस थोड़ा-सा हिस्सा बताया है।

English: There is no end to My divine glories, O scorcher of foes. What I have told you is only a brief account of the extent of My glory.

10.41

यद्यद्विभूतिमत्सत्त्वं श्रीमदूर्जितमेव वा।
तत्तदेवावगच्छ त्वं मम तेजोंऽशसंभवम्।।10.41।।

yad yad vibhūtimat sattvaṁ śhrīmad ūrjitam eva vā
tat tad evāvagachchha tvaṁ mama tejo ’nśha-sambhavam

अर्थ: जो-जो चीज़ महिमा वाली, शोभा वाली या शक्ति वाली है, उसे मेरे तेज के एक छोटे-से अंश से पैदा हुआ जानो।

English: Whatever being is glorious, prosperous or powerful, know that it springs from a mere spark of My splendour.

10.42

अथवा बहुनैतेन किं ज्ञातेन तवार्जुन।
विष्टभ्याहमिदं कृत्स्नमेकांशेन स्थितो जगत्।।10.42।।

atha vā bahunaitena kiṁ jñātena tavārjuna
viṣhṭabhyāham idaṁ kṛitsnam ekānśhena sthito jagat

अर्थ: पर हे अर्जुन, इतना सब विस्तार से जानने की तुम्हें क्या ज़रूरत है? मैं इस पूरे जगत को अपने एक अंश से थामकर स्थित हूँ।

English: But what need is there, O Arjuna, for all this detailed knowledge? I stand, supporting this whole universe with a single fraction of Myself.
